CD & RUN
Start any program under Windows from any startup directory
Copyright (c) 1990 by Mike Sax
Free For All
When you run a program from the Windows Program Manager, the current
directory of that program becomes the directory the program is located
in. (For example: If you run C:\WINDOWS\WRITE.EXE, the current directory
of Write C:\WINDOWS). CD & RUN lets you specify a different startup
directory. Copy CD&RUN.EXE to your Windows directory, or to another
directory that's in the PATH.
Syntax: CD&RUN <directory> <normal commandline>
Examples: CD&RUN C:\LETTERS WRITE NEWLTR.WRI
CD&RUN C:\PICTURES PBRUSH
To add a startup directory to an icon in the program manager:
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. Select the icon you want to change
2. Choose "Properties..." in the "File" menu
3. Put "CD&RUN <directory" before the command line
4. Press Ok.
If you follow the above tests, the application icon in the Program Manager
will change to the CD&RUN icon. This is because Windows thinks CD&RUN is
now the real program.
To change the icon of a program you modified back to the original:
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Select the icon you want to change
2. Choose "Properties" in the "File" menu
3. Press the "Modify icon..." button
4. Put the original program filename in the edit box
5. Press Ok
Installing CD&RUN on your applications may take some time (about 2 minutes
per application), but you'll save a lot of time changing directories.
You could, for example, create several icons that start your word processor
in different directories (eg: C:\LETTERS, C:\INVOICES and C:\REPORTS).
You can also use CD&RUN to start non-windows programs with a startup
directory.
